Are There Alligators in Lake Tawakoni Today?

Published in Wildlife 1 min read

While alligators have been spotted in Lake Tawakoni in the past, there are no confirmed reports of alligators currently residing in the lake.

Alligators are native to the southeastern United States, and their range extends as far north as eastern Texas. However, Lake Tawakoni is located in northeastern Texas, which is outside the typical range for alligators.

While it is possible for alligators to travel outside their usual habitat, it is unlikely that they would establish a permanent population in Lake Tawakoni.

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) monitors alligator populations across the state and has not reported any sightings of alligators in Lake Tawakoni in recent years.

If you see an alligator in Lake Tawakoni, it is important to report it to the TPWD immediately.

Remember, it is always best to be cautious around water bodies, especially in areas where alligators are known to inhabit.
