Does London Get Tornadoes?

Published in Weather 1 min read

While tornadoes are relatively common in other parts of the world, London rarely experiences tornadoes.

Tornadoes are powerful rotating columns of air that form within thunderstorms. They typically occur in areas with warm, moist air and strong updrafts. The UK climate, with its generally cooler temperatures and less frequent thunderstorms, creates conditions that are less favorable for tornado formation.

While London is not immune to tornadoes, they are extremely rare occurrences. The last reported tornado in London was in 2005, when a weak tornado touched down in the borough of Richmond upon Thames.
