Cutting a clip in Avid is a simple process that involves using the blade tool to trim the beginning or end of a clip.

Steps to Cut a Clip in Avid:

  1. Select the clip: Click on the clip in the timeline to highlight it.
  2. Activate the blade tool: Click on the blade tool icon in the Avid toolbar.
  3. Place the blade: Move the playhead to the desired cut point and click. This will create a cut point in the clip.
  4. Trim the clip: Use the trim tool to adjust the cut point as needed.

Additional Tips:

  • You can also use the keyboard shortcut "B" to activate the blade tool.
  • To cut a clip at the beginning or end, simply place the playhead at the desired point and click the "B" key.
  • To split a clip in two, place the playhead at the desired point and click the "C" key.

Example:

Let's say you want to trim the beginning of a clip to remove a few seconds of unwanted footage.

  1. Select the clip.
  2. Click the blade tool.
