There are several notable Black female serial killers, but one of the most infamous is Aileen Wuornos.
Aileen Wuornos was a sex worker who was convicted of killing seven men in Florida between 1989 and 1990. Her case gained notoriety due to her claims of self-defense against her victims, who she alleged were abusive or attempted to assault her.
Wuornos was executed in 2002, and her story has been the subject of several documentaries and films, including the 2003 film "Monster" starring Charlize Theron.
Here are some other Black female serial killers who have gained notoriety:
- Dorothea Puente: Known as the "Death House Landlady," Puente operated a boarding house in Sacramento, California, where she poisoned and buried her elderly tenants.
- Cheryl "The Black Widow" Williams: Williams was convicted of killing her husband and several other men in the 1980s.
- Velma Barfield: Known as the "Death House Landlady," Puente operated a boarding house in Sacramento, California, where she poisoned and buried her elderly tenants.
- Susan Smith: Smith was convicted of killing her two young sons in 1994.
While these individuals are some of the most well-known Black female serial killers, it is important to remember that they represent a small fraction of the population and that their actions do not reflect the entire Black community.
