How Do I Rename a User in Tableau?

Published in Tableau User Management 1 min read

You can't directly rename a user in Tableau. User management is handled through your Tableau Server or Online environment's authentication system, not within Tableau itself.

To change a user's name, you'll need to modify their account information in the system where your Tableau Server or Online is authenticated. This will typically involve:

  • Accessing your authentication system's user management console. This could be Active Directory, LDAP, or another system depending on your setup.
  • Locating the user account you want to rename.
  • Updating the user's name field.
  • Saving the changes.

Once you've updated the user's name in your authentication system, Tableau will reflect the new name when you log in.

Example:

If your Tableau Server is authenticated through Active Directory, you would need to access your Active Directory user management console, find the user account you want to rename, change the 'display name' or 'full name' field, and save the changes.

Note: The exact process for renaming a user will vary depending on your specific authentication system.
