How Do I Assign a License in Tableau Cloud?

Published in Tableau Cloud Licensing 2 mins read

You cannot directly assign licenses in Tableau Cloud. Tableau Cloud licenses are managed through your organization's Tableau Server or Tableau Online account.

Here's how you can manage licenses:

  • For Tableau Server: If you are using Tableau Server, your administrator will manage licenses through the Tableau Server interface. They can assign licenses to users, groups, or projects.
  • For Tableau Online: If you are using Tableau Online, your administrator will manage licenses through the Tableau Online interface. They can assign licenses to users or groups.

Understanding License Types

Tableau offers various license types, each with specific capabilities and limitations. Your administrator will choose the appropriate license based on your organization's needs. Some common license types include:

  • Creator: Allows users to create and publish workbooks and data sources.
  • Explorer: Allows users to view and interact with dashboards and workbooks.
  • Viewer: Allows users to view dashboards and workbooks but not interact with them.

Contacting Tableau Support

If you have questions about license management or need assistance with assigning licenses, contact your organization's Tableau administrator or reach out to Tableau support for assistance.
