How Do I Merge All EndNote Libraries?

Published in Software 2 mins read

Merging all your EndNote libraries is straightforward! You can do this directly within the EndNote software.

Steps to Merge EndNote Libraries:

  1. Open EndNote: Launch the EndNote application on your computer.
  2. Select "File" > "Merge Libraries" from the menu bar.
  3. Choose the Libraries to Merge: A window will appear listing all your available EndNote libraries. Select the libraries you want to merge.
  4. Select "Merge into" Library: Choose the library you want to merge the selected libraries into.
  5. Click "Merge" to begin the merging process.

EndNote will combine the references from the selected libraries into the chosen destination library.

Additional Tips:

  • Review Duplicate References: After merging, EndNote will flag any duplicate references. Review these duplicates and decide whether to keep one, merge them, or remove them.
  • Organize the Merged Library: Once the merging process is complete, consider organizing the references in your merged library. You can create groups, sort references, and add keywords to make your library more manageable.

Example:

Let's say you have three EndNote libraries: "Research Papers," "Journal Articles," and "Book Chapters." You want to combine them into a single library called "All References." You would follow the steps above, selecting "Research Papers," "Journal Articles," and "Book Chapters" for merging and choosing "All References" as the destination library.

By following these steps, you can successfully merge all your EndNote libraries, consolidating your references into a single, organized library.
