Does Alum Shrink Pores?

Published in Skincare 1 min read

Alum, a common household ingredient, is often touted as a pore-shrinking remedy. However, alum does not actually shrink pores.

The appearance of smaller pores after using alum is often due to its astringent properties. Alum temporarily tightens the skin, making pores appear smaller. This effect is short-lived and does not lead to permanent pore reduction.

Pores are openings in the skin that allow for the release of sweat and sebum. Their size is determined by genetics and cannot be altered by topical applications.

While alum may provide a temporary tightening effect, it's important to note that it does not address the underlying causes of enlarged pores, such as excess oil production or clogged pores.

If you're concerned about enlarged pores, consider consulting a dermatologist for personalized advice and treatment options.
