You can merge Revit links into the host model by using the Bind command. This converts the linked file's geometry into a group within the host model.
Steps to Merge Revit Links:
- Select the linked file: In the project browser, locate the linked file you want to merge.
- Open the Modify tab: Click the Modify tab in the ribbon.
- Click the Bind button: Within the Modify tab, find and click the Bind button.
- Confirm the binding: A confirmation window will appear. Click Yes to proceed with the merge.
Note: The linked file's geometry will be converted into a group within the host model. To access and modify individual elements within the merged group, you will need to ungroup them.
Advantages of Merging Revit Links:
- Improved performance: Binding linked files eliminates the need to load external files, improving the overall performance of your project.
- Simplified management: You no longer have to manage separate linked files, making your workflow more streamlined.
- Increased control: You gain full control over the merged geometry, allowing you to modify it as needed.
Disadvantages of Merging Revit Links:
- Loss of link functionality: After binding, the linked file is no longer associated with the original Revit file. Any changes made to the original file will not be reflected in the host model.
- Increased file size: The host model will become larger as it now contains the merged geometry.
- Potentially complex ungrouping: Ungrouping the merged geometry can be complex, especially for large files.
Example: Imagine you have a Revit model for a building's structure and another for its MEP systems. You can link these models together and then bind them to create a single, unified model.
