What are the three techniques employed in reality therapy?

Published in Reality Therapy Techniques 1 min read

Reality therapy employs several techniques, but three core ones are:

  • WDEP: This stands for Wants, Doing, Evaluation, and Planning. It's a structured approach to helping clients identify their needs and goals, evaluate their current actions, and plan future behaviors.
  • Self-Evaluation: Reality therapy emphasizes empowering clients to take ownership of their choices and behaviors. This involves encouraging them to assess their actions and their impact on their lives.
  • Action Planning: Clients are encouraged to develop concrete plans to achieve their goals. These plans should be specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART).

These techniques work together to help clients focus on the present, take responsibility for their choices, and make changes that lead to a more fulfilling life.
