You can usually tell your delivery date is near by watching for these signs:
Physical Changes
- Increased vaginal discharge: This discharge may become thicker and more watery, and you may experience a change in its color.
- Cervical changes: Your cervix may begin to soften, shorten, and open slightly.
- Water breaking: This is a classic sign of labor, and it means your amniotic sac has ruptured.
- Contractions: These are regular, tightening sensations in your abdomen that signal your body is getting ready to deliver.
- Backache: You may experience a persistent backache, especially in your lower back.
- Diarrhea: Some women experience diarrhea in the days or weeks leading up to labor.
- Weight loss: You may lose a few pounds in the days before delivery.
Emotional Changes
- Increased anxiety: It is normal to feel anxious as your due date approaches.
- Nesting instinct: You may feel the urge to clean and prepare your home for the arrival of your baby.
- Increased energy: Many women experience a surge of energy in the days leading up to labor.
Other Signs
- Your baby dropping: You may notice your baby has dropped lower in your pelvis, making it easier to breathe but putting more pressure on your bladder.
- Increased Braxton Hicks contractions: These are practice contractions that are usually less intense than labor contractions.
- Increased mucus plug discharge: This thick, gelatinous plug helps protect your cervix during pregnancy. As your body prepares for labor, it may come out.
Important Note: Keep in mind that everyone experiences pregnancy and labor differently. While these signs are common, they may not be present for everyone. If you have any concerns, it is always best to contact your doctor or midwife.
