Can You Feel Baby Engaged?

Published in Pregnancy 1 min read

You can't physically feel your baby engage, but you might notice some signs that suggest your baby has dropped into the pelvis.

Engaging refers to the baby's head settling into the pelvis, which typically happens a few weeks before labor. This position allows the baby to descend further into the birth canal during labor.

Signs of engagement can include:

  • Increased pressure on your bladder: This can cause more frequent urination.
  • A feeling of heaviness or fullness in your pelvis: You may feel like your baby is sitting lower in your abdomen.
  • Easier breathing: As the baby drops, pressure on your diaphragm decreases, making it easier to breathe.
  • Increased vaginal discharge: This is a normal occurrence as your body prepares for labor.
  • Lower back pain: The baby's weight pressing on your lower back can cause discomfort.

It's important to note that not all babies engage before labor, and some may engage during labor. If you're unsure whether your baby has engaged, it's best to consult with your doctor or midwife.
