Which force attracts Earth?

Published in Physics 1 min read

The force that attracts Earth is gravity.

Gravity is a fundamental force of nature that attracts any two objects with mass. The more massive an object is, the stronger its gravitational pull. Since the Sun is much more massive than Earth, its gravity pulls on Earth, keeping it in orbit.

Gravity is also responsible for many other phenomena on Earth, such as:

  • The tides: The Moon's gravity pulls on the Earth's oceans, causing the tides to rise and fall.
  • The Earth's shape: Gravity pulls all of Earth's mass towards its center, giving it a slightly flattened shape at the poles and a bulge at the equator.
  • The weight of objects: The weight of an object is the force of gravity pulling it down towards the Earth's center.

Gravity is an essential force that shapes our universe and plays a critical role in our daily lives.
