You can install Ubuntu on Windows using the Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL). WSL lets you run a Linux environment directly within Windows, giving you access to popular Linux tools and applications.

Here's how to get started:

1. Enable WSL:

  • Open Windows Settings (Windows key + I).
  • Go to Apps > Apps & features.
  • Click Programs and Features in the left pane.
  • Select Turn Windows features on or off.
  • Check the box next to Windows Subsystem for Linux.
  • Click OK and restart your computer.

2. Install Ubuntu from the Microsoft Store:

  • Open the Microsoft Store.
  • Search for Ubuntu.
  • Click Get to install Ubuntu.

3. Launch Ubuntu:

  • Once installed, search for Ubuntu in the Windows Start menu.
  • Click the Ubuntu icon to launch it.
  • You'll be prompted to create a user account for your Ubuntu environment.

Now you can use the Ubuntu terminal and access a wide range of Linux commands and tools.

Example:

  • To list the files in your current directory, type ls in the Ubuntu terminal and press Enter.

Note: You can install other Linux distributions through the Microsoft Store, such as Debian, Kali Linux, and Fedora.
