You cannot set a default gateway on a Cisco switch. Cisco switches are Layer 2 devices, responsible for forwarding frames based on MAC addresses. They do not handle IP routing, which is the function of Layer 3 devices like routers.
A default gateway is an IP address that a device uses to send traffic to destinations outside its local network. Switches do not have the capability to route traffic to external networks, and therefore do not need a default gateway.
To configure a default gateway, you must configure it on a router or a device acting as a router.
- For example: You might configure a default gateway on a Cisco router connected to your switch. This router would then be responsible for routing traffic to destinations outside of your local network.
