John Cooke, Janis Joplin's road manager, found her lifeless in her hotel room at the Landmark Motor Hotel in Hollywood on October 4, 1970.
Cooke had been trying to reach Joplin by phone, but she was not answering. Concerned, he went to her room and found her unresponsive. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The official cause of death was heroin overdose.
