How Do I Remap MIDI Keys in Ableton?

You can remap MIDI keys in Ableton Live using the MIDI Map mode.

Remapping MIDI Keys in Ableton Live

  1. Enter MIDI Map Mode: Press "M" on your keyboard or click the "MIDI Map" button in the top right corner of the Ableton Live window.
  2. Select Your MIDI Device: Choose the MIDI controller you want to remap from the "MIDI Devices" list in the "MIDI Map" window.
  3. Select the MIDI Note or Controller: Click on the desired MIDI note or controller on the virtual keyboard or the "MIDI Map" window.
  4. Trigger the Desired Function: Play the MIDI note or move the controller on your MIDI device.
  5. Confirm the Mapping: Click "Done" in the "MIDI Map" window.

Example

Let's say you want to remap the C#2 key on your MIDI keyboard to control the volume of a track in Ableton Live.

  1. Enter MIDI Map Mode: Press "M" or click "MIDI Map".
  2. Select Your MIDI Device: Choose your MIDI keyboard from the list.
  3. Select C#2: Click on the C#2 key on the virtual keyboard.
  4. Trigger Volume Control: Move the volume knob on your MIDI keyboard.
  5. Confirm Mapping: Click "Done".

Now, whenever you play the C#2 key on your MIDI keyboard, it will control the volume of the selected track in Ableton Live.
