Who had 5000 wives?

Published in Mughal History 1 min read

The Mughal emperor Akbar is often said to have had 5000 wives. However, this is an exaggeration. While he did have a large harem, historical records indicate that he had around 300 wives. The rest of the women in his palace were likely concubines, dancing girls, and servants.

It's important to note that the number of wives a ruler had in ancient and medieval times was often inflated by historians or chroniclers. These numbers were used to portray the ruler's power and wealth, and they may not reflect the actual reality.
