How Do I Disable Personal Files in Moodle?

Published in Moodle 2 mins read

You can't directly disable the "Personal Files" section in Moodle. This feature is a core functionality that allows users to store and access their files within the platform. However, you can achieve a similar effect by adjusting Moodle settings and taking other measures.

1. Disable File Uploads in Specific Courses:

  • Navigate to the course settings.
  • Locate the "Upload Files" option.
  • Disable the option to prevent users from uploading files within that particular course.

2. Control User Access to "Personal Files":

  • Go to "Site administration" > "Users" > "Permissions".
  • Find the "Manage personal files" capability.
  • Restrict access to specific user roles or adjust permissions according to your needs.

3. Remove the "Personal Files" Block:

  • Go to the "Edit" mode of any course or page.
  • Locate the "Personal Files" block.
  • Click on the "Hide" button to remove it from the view.

4. Implement a Different File Management System:

  • Explore alternative file management systems that can be integrated with Moodle.
  • This allows you to manage files independently from Moodle's "Personal Files" feature.

Remember that these methods only restrict access or visibility to "Personal Files," but they don't completely disable the feature.
