What Happens When Your Phone Is On Do Not Disturb and Someone Calls You?

Published in Mobile Phone Features 2 mins read

When your phone is on Do Not Disturb mode, incoming calls are silenced.

Here's what happens in detail:

  • Calls are silenced: The phone won't ring or vibrate, and the caller won't hear a ring tone.
  • Calls are sent to voicemail: The call will automatically be directed to your voicemail, if you have one set up.
  • Notifications are suppressed: You won't see any notifications for incoming calls on your lock screen or notification center.

Exceptions to Do Not Disturb:

  • Favored contacts: You can set up exceptions for certain contacts, allowing their calls to bypass Do Not Disturb mode.
  • Repeated calls: If the same caller tries to reach you multiple times within a short period, the call might still go through.
  • Emergency calls: Calls from emergency numbers (like 911 or your local emergency services) will always go through, regardless of Do Not Disturb mode.

How to Use Do Not Disturb:

  • Android: You can access Do Not Disturb mode through the quick settings menu or in the phone's settings app.
  • iOS: You can access Do Not Disturb mode through the Control Center or in the phone's settings app.
