Do Snipers Close One Eye?

Published in Military 1 min read

Snipers do not close one eye. They use both eyes to aim and shoot accurately.

While it is a common misconception that snipers close one eye, this is not true. Closing one eye can actually hinder their accuracy by limiting their depth perception and field of view.

Here's why snipers need both eyes open:

  • Depth Perception: Both eyes working together provide a three-dimensional view of the target, crucial for judging distance and aiming precisely.
  • Field of View: Using both eyes allows snipers to have a wider field of view, enabling them to spot potential threats or changes in the environment around the target.
  • Focus and Concentration: Keeping both eyes open helps snipers maintain focus and concentration on the target, avoiding distractions.

Instead of closing an eye, snipers use a technique called "sight alignment" where they align the sights of their rifle with their dominant eye. This allows them to aim accurately while maintaining their peripheral vision.
