Penbritin capsules contain the antibiotic phenoxymethylpenicillin, also known as penicillin V. It is used to treat a variety of bacterial infections, including:
- Strep throat: A common infection caused by the bacteria Streptococcus pyogenes.
- Scarlet fever: A bacterial infection that causes a red rash and fever.
- Impetigo: A skin infection that causes red sores.
- Pneumonia: An infection of the lungs.
- Ear infections: Infections of the middle ear.
- Sinusitis: An infection of the sinuses.
Penbritin is typically taken by mouth, and the dosage depends on the type of infection being treated. It is important to take Penbritin exactly as prescribed by your doctor and to complete the full course of treatment, even if you start to feel better.
Note: Penbritin is not effective against viral infections, such as the common cold or flu.
