BiPAP stands for Biphasic Positive Airway Pressure.
BiPAP is a type of non-invasive ventilation therapy used to help people with breathing problems. It uses two different pressures:
- Inspiration pressure: Delivers air into the lungs during inhalation.
- Expiration pressure: Helps the lungs exhale air more easily.
BiPAP machines are commonly used for patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), heart failure, and other respiratory conditions.
How BiPAP Works:
- A BiPAP machine delivers air through a mask that covers the nose and/or mouth.
- The machine automatically adjusts the pressure based on the patient's breathing patterns.
- The higher inspiration pressure helps to keep the airway open during inhalation.
- The lower expiration pressure allows for easier exhalation.
Benefits of BiPAP Therapy:
- Improves breathing and sleep quality.
- Reduces daytime fatigue.
- Improves overall health and well-being.
