What Are the Symptoms of No Embryo?

Published in Medical 1 min read

The absence of an embryo, also known as a blighted ovum or anembryonic pregnancy, often doesn't present any noticeable symptoms. This is because the body continues to produce pregnancy hormones like hCG, which can lead to a positive pregnancy test and even early pregnancy symptoms like breast tenderness and nausea.

However, some women may experience:

  • Bleeding or spotting: This is a common symptom of a blighted ovum and can occur at any stage of pregnancy.
  • Abdominal cramping: Mild to moderate cramping may also occur, especially if the pregnancy tissue is being expelled from the body.
  • Lack of fetal heartbeat: During an ultrasound, the healthcare provider may not detect a fetal heartbeat, even though the gestational sac is present.

It's crucial to note that these symptoms can also be associated with other pregnancy complications. If you experience any of these symptoms, it's essential to consult your healthcare provider for a proper diagnosis and treatment.
