Chronic Pelvic Pain (CPE) is not caused by a virus or bacteria. It's a complex condition that can have many causes, including:
- Endometriosis: A condition where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus.
- Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID): An infection of the reproductive organs.
- Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS): A common disorder that affects the large intestine.
- Fibroids: Noncancerous growths in the uterus.
- Ovarian cysts: Fluid-filled sacs on the ovaries.
- Interstitial cystitis: A chronic bladder condition.
- Muscle tension: Tight muscles in the pelvis can contribute to pain.
- Nerve damage: Injury to the nerves in the pelvis can cause pain.
While some of these causes can be caused by infections, CPE itself is not a viral or bacterial infection.
