There are a few ways to change users on a locked Mac, depending on the specific situation:
1. Using the Login Window
- If you have another user account on the Mac with administrator privileges, you can simply log in using that account.
- Once logged in, you can switch to the desired user by clicking on the user icon in the top-right corner of the screen and selecting the desired user.
2. Using the Force Quit Menu
- If you can't access any user accounts, you can try using the Force Quit menu:
- Press Command + Option + Escape to open the Force Quit menu.
- Select the Finder process and click Force Quit.
- This will log you out of the current user and bring you to the login screen.
- You can then log in with the desired user account.
3. Using Recovery Mode
- If the above methods don't work, you can use Recovery Mode:
- Restart your Mac and hold down Command + R until you see the Apple logo.
- Select Disk Utility from the menu.
- Select the Macintosh HD drive and click First Aid.
- This will repair any disk errors that might be preventing you from logging in.
- After the repair is complete, restart your Mac and try logging in with the desired user account.
4. Resetting the Password
- If you've forgotten the password for the user you want to access, you'll need to reset it:
- Restart your Mac and hold down Command + R until you see the Apple logo.
- Select Disk Utility from the menu.
- Select the Macintosh HD drive and click First Aid.
- After the repair is complete, restart your Mac and try logging in with the desired user account.
Remember to always back up your data before making any changes to your Mac.
