Why is Kelsier a Psychopath?

Published in Literature 2 mins read

Kelsier, the protagonist of Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn series, is not a psychopath.

While he exhibits some traits that might be associated with psychopathy, such as ruthlessness and a disregard for rules, he is ultimately driven by a strong moral compass and a desire for justice.

Here's why:

  • He possesses empathy: Kelsier deeply cares for his crew and the oppressed people of Luthadel. He risks his life to protect them and takes great pains to ensure their well-being.
  • He is motivated by a sense of right and wrong: Kelsier's actions are fueled by a desire to overthrow the tyrannical Lord Ruler and bring freedom to the people of Scadrial. He believes in a better world and fights tirelessly to achieve it.
  • He is capable of love and compassion: Kelsier forms deep bonds with his crew and shows genuine affection for his friends and allies. He is not devoid of emotion, and his actions are often driven by love and loyalty.

While Kelsier's methods may be considered extreme by some, he is ultimately a complex character who acts according to his own moral code. He is not a psychopath, but a revolutionary fighting for a just cause.
