Elend Venture, the main character in Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn series, is not killed in the books. He survives all of the events in the Mistborn saga and lives to see the end of the Lord Ruler's reign and the beginning of a new era for the world of Scadrial.

He manages to overcome each obstacle and ultimately becomes the leader of the newly liberated Scadrial.
