How Long Was Pi at Sea?

Published in Literature 1 min read

The question "How long was Pi at sea?" is a bit of a trick question! Pi, the mathematical constant, is not a person who can sail a ship. Pi is a number, approximately 3.14159, that represents the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter.

However, the question could be a playful reference to the famous novel Life of Pi by Yann Martel. In this story, the protagonist, Piscine Molitor "Pi" Patel, survives a shipwreck and spends 227 days adrift at sea in a lifeboat with a Bengal tiger named Richard Parker.

So, while Pi itself doesn't sail, the fictional character Pi Patel spent a long time at sea: 227 days.
