What Languages Have No Gender?

Published in Linguistics 1 min read

While many languages use grammatical gender to classify nouns, some languages do not. Here are a few examples:

Languages Without Grammatical Gender:

  • Chinese: Chinese does not have grammatical gender, so nouns are not categorized as masculine, feminine, or neuter.
  • Japanese: Similar to Chinese, Japanese lacks grammatical gender.
  • Turkish: Turkish also does not assign grammatical gender to nouns.
  • Vietnamese: Vietnamese does not use grammatical gender for nouns.

These languages use other grammatical features, such as word order or particles, to convey relationships between words in a sentence.
