Is it Halal to Get Married to Yourself?

Published in Islamic Law 1 min read

It is not permissible in Islam to marry oneself.

Marriage in Islam is a contract between two individuals, a man and a woman, who agree to form a union based on mutual consent, love, and respect. The purpose of marriage is to create a stable and loving family unit, raise children in a nurturing environment, and fulfill the biological and emotional needs of both partners.

The concept of marrying oneself goes against the very essence of marriage in Islam. It contradicts the fundamental principles of:

  • Two individuals: Marriage requires the involvement of two distinct individuals, not one.

  • Mutual consent: Both partners must willingly agree to the union.

  • Procreation and family building: The purpose of marriage is to create a family and raise children.

Therefore, the idea of marrying oneself is not only incompatible with Islamic teachings but also lacks any practical or societal relevance.
