Wudu, also known as ablution, is a ritual purification in Islam that is performed before prayer and other acts of worship. It involves washing specific parts of the body in a specific order using clean water. Here are the rules for Wudu:
1. Intention:
- The first step is to have the intention to perform Wudu. This signifies your commitment to purifying yourself for worship.
2. Washing Hands:
- Wash your hands three times, ensuring you reach between your fingers and up to your wrists.
3. Rinsing Mouth and Nose:
- Take water in your hand and rinse your mouth three times.
- Then, take water into your nose and sniff it up three times, ensuring the water reaches the nasal cavity.
- Finally, blow your nose gently.
4. Washing Face:
- Wash your face three times, making sure to cover the entire area from the hairline to the chin and from ear to ear.
5. Washing Arms:
- Wash both arms up to your elbows three times, ensuring you reach between your fingers and up to your elbows.
6. Wiping Head:
- Wet your hands and wipe your head once from the front to the back, covering the entire scalp.
7. Washing Ears:
- Wet your index fingers and insert them into your ears, cleaning them three times.
- Then, wipe the outer part of the ear with your wet thumb.
8. Washing Feet:
- Wash both feet up to the ankles three times, ensuring you reach between your toes and up to your ankles.
9. Order of Washing:
- The order of washing is important.
- You should start by washing your hands, then rinse your mouth and nose, followed by washing your face, arms, head, ears, and finally your feet.
10. Water Usage:
- Use clean water for Wudu.
- You should use enough water to properly cleanse each part of your body.
11. Validating Wudu:
- If you break Wudu, you need to perform it again.
- Some actions that invalidate Wudu include:
- Passing gas or stool
- Urinating or defecating
- Sleeping
- Touching private parts
- Vomiting
- Bleeding from a wound
12. Sunnah Practices:
- There are certain Sunnah (recommended) practices that can enhance the performance of Wudu, such as:
- Saying the intention out loud
- Washing your hands and rinsing your mouth and nose with the right hand
- Making sure the water reaches all parts of your body
- Using a miswak (toothbrush) to clean your teeth
- Making supplication (dua) after completing Wudu
By following these rules, you can ensure that your Wudu is valid and you are prepared for prayer and other acts of worship.
