How Do I Know If My DV Lottery Is Approved?

Published in Immigration 2 mins read

You can find out if your Diversity Visa (DV) Lottery entry was selected through the Entrant Status Check on the official U.S. Department of State website.

How to Check Your DV Lottery Status:

  1. Visit the Entrant Status Check page: Go to https://dvprogram.state.gov/.
  2. Enter your confirmation number and year of entry: You will need the unique confirmation number you received when you submitted your DV Lottery application.
  3. Click "Submit": The website will display your selection status.

Understanding Your DV Lottery Status:

  • "Selected": If your status says "Selected," congratulations! You have been chosen in the DV Lottery and are eligible to proceed with the visa application process.
  • "Not Selected": If your status says "Not Selected," unfortunately, you were not chosen this year. You can try again next year.

Important Notes:

  • Entrant Status Check opens in May: The Entrant Status Check opens in early May each year.
  • Check your status regularly: The status can change, so it's important to check regularly.
  • Don't rely on emails or phone calls: The U.S. Department of State will not contact you by email or phone to inform you of your selection status. Only check the Entrant Status Check website.

What to Do If You Are Selected:

If you are selected, you will need to follow the instructions provided on the Entrant Status Check website. This will include information about:

  • Completing the visa application process: You will need to submit the required documents and attend an interview at a U.S. embassy or consulate.
  • Submitting your Diversity Visa Lottery application: You must submit your application within a specific timeframe.

What to Do If You Are Not Selected:

If you are not selected, you can try again next year. The DV Lottery is held annually, so you have another chance to apply.
