Can You Wash a Duvet with a Cover On?

Published in Home Appliances 1 min read

It is generally not recommended to wash a duvet with its cover on.

Here's why:

  • Duvets and covers have different washing requirements: Duvets often require special care and delicate washing cycles, while duvet covers are typically more durable and can handle hotter temperatures.
  • Uneven cleaning: Washing a duvet with a cover can lead to uneven cleaning, as the cover may trap dirt and debris, preventing the duvet from being properly cleaned.
  • Damage to the duvet: The weight and friction of the cover can damage the duvet during the washing cycle, especially if it's made of delicate materials like down or feathers.
  • Difficult to dry: A duvet with a cover on will take much longer to dry, increasing the risk of mildew and mold growth.

Instead, it's best to wash your duvet and cover separately. This allows you to use the appropriate washing settings and ensures both items are thoroughly cleaned.
