Published in History 1 min read

The first Constitution of Pakistan was drafted by a Constitutional Commission headed by Allama Muhammad Iqbal, a renowned philosopher and poet.

The Commission was appointed by the Constituent Assembly of Pakistan in 1949.

It took several years to draft the Constitution, and it was finally adopted on August 14, 1956.

The first Constitution established Pakistan as a federation with a parliamentary system of government.

It also defined the fundamental rights of citizens and established the Supreme Court as the highest court of the land.

However, the first Constitution was abolished in 1958 when a military coup led by General Ayub Khan took place.
