How did AIB start?

Published in History 2 mins read

AIB, or All India Bakchod, began as a humour and pop-culture podcast in 2012. The two co-founders, comedians Tanmay Bhat and Gursimran Khamba, collaborated to create this comedic platform.

The podcast gained popularity and eventually expanded into other mediums. They started producing skits, stand-up comedy videos, and online series on YouTube. Later, they were joined by two other comedians, Rohan Joshi and Ashish Shakya, making them a core group of four. Their content often focused on satirizing social and cultural issues in India.

AIB's most notable moment came with the Roast of Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor in 2015. This event, while controversial, brought them immense attention and established them as a leading force in Indian comedy. However, AIB faced criticism and backlash for some of their content, eventually leading to a change in their approach and a less active presence in the comedy scene.

AIB's journey was a significant part of the rise of online comedy in India, and despite their later challenges, they remain an important figure in the Indian entertainment landscape.
