Do Plasters Protect from UV?

Published in Health 1 min read

Plasters do not offer protection from UV rays.

While plasters can cover and protect wounds from the sun, they are not designed to block ultraviolet radiation. UV rays can penetrate through the plaster, potentially causing sunburn or other skin damage to the exposed area.

If you are concerned about sun exposure, it is essential to use sunscreen with a high SPF and wear protective clothing, such as hats and long sleeves.

Here are some additional points to consider:

  • Different types of plasters: Some plasters may have a slightly thicker adhesive layer, which might offer minimal protection from UV rays. However, this protection is not significant and should not be relied upon.

  • Sun sensitivity: People with sensitive skin may experience increased sun sensitivity in areas covered by plasters, even if the plasters are not directly exposed to the sun.

Always prioritize proper sun protection when outdoors, regardless of whether you have a plaster on.
