Can Myopia Be Cured by Eye Exercises?

Published in Health 1 min read

While eye exercises can help strengthen eye muscles and improve focus, they cannot cure myopia (nearsightedness). Myopia is a refractive error where the eye focuses light in front of the retina instead of directly on it, causing blurry vision at a distance.

Eye exercises may help with:

  • Eye strain: Exercises can relax eye muscles and reduce fatigue caused by prolonged screen time or other activities.
  • Focus: Certain exercises can improve concentration and visual acuity.
  • Eye health: Regular eye exercises can promote overall eye health by improving blood circulation.

However, eye exercises cannot change the shape of the eye or the refractive error that causes myopia.

Treatment for myopia typically includes:

  • Eyeglasses or contact lenses: These correct the refractive error and provide clear vision.
  • Orthokeratology (Ortho-K): Special contact lenses worn overnight reshape the cornea, improving vision during the day.
  • Laser surgery: Procedures like LASIK and PRK permanently reshape the cornea to correct myopia.

It's essential to consult an eye doctor for a proper diagnosis and treatment plan.
