How Do You Know If Your Heart Is Beating OK?

Published in Health & Wellness 2 mins read

You can usually tell if your heart is beating okay by feeling your pulse. Your pulse is the rhythmic throbbing of blood through your arteries, which you can feel in several places on your body, including your wrist, neck, and inside your elbow.

Checking Your Pulse:

  1. Find Your Pulse: Place two fingers (not your thumb) gently on the inside of your wrist, just below your thumb. You should feel a slight pulse.
  2. Count Your Beats: Count the number of beats you feel in 15 seconds. Multiply that number by four to get your heart rate per minute.
  3. Normal Range: A normal resting heart rate for adults is between 60 and 100 beats per minute.

Other Signs of a Healthy Heartbeat:

Besides feeling your pulse, there are other signs that your heart is functioning properly:

  • You don't experience chest pain or discomfort.
  • You don't feel dizzy or lightheaded.
  • You don't have shortness of breath.
  • You can engage in physical activity without feeling overly tired.

If you experience any of these symptoms, it's important to consult a doctor to rule out any underlying heart conditions.

When to See a Doctor:

  • Rapid or irregular heartbeat: If your heart is beating too fast or irregularly, it could be a sign of a heart problem.
  • Chest pain or pressure: Any chest pain or pressure, especially if it's accompanied by other symptoms like shortness of breath or sweating, should be checked by a doctor immediately.
  • Dizziness or lightheadedness: If you feel dizzy or lightheaded, it could be a sign of a problem with your blood pressure or heart rate.

Remember, this information is for general knowledge and should not replace professional medical advice. If you have any concerns about your heart health, please consult a doctor.
