How Do You Remove a Guitar Backplate?

Published in Guitar Repair 1 min read

Removing a guitar backplate is a simple process that usually involves a few screws.

Steps to Remove a Guitar Backplate:

  1. Locate the screws: The backplate is typically held in place by 2-4 screws located around the perimeter.
  2. Use a screwdriver: Find a screwdriver that fits the screw heads.
  3. Unscrew the screws: Carefully turn the screws counterclockwise to loosen them.
  4. Remove the backplate: Once the screws are removed, the backplate should come off easily.

Note: Some guitars may have backplates that are glued in place, requiring a different removal method.

Additional Tips:

  • Be careful not to scratch the guitar: Use a soft cloth or a tool with a rubber grip to avoid damaging the finish.
  • Keep track of the screws: Place them in a safe place to avoid losing them.
  • Consider taking photos: Before you start, take photos of the backplate's position and any other components you might need to remember.
