How Do Locked Google Forms Work?

Published in Google Forms 2 mins read

Locked Google Forms prevent further responses from being submitted. This feature is useful for ensuring that your form is no longer accepting submissions after a specific deadline or when you have gathered enough responses.

How to Lock a Google Form:

  1. Open your Google Form: Go to your Google Drive and locate the form you want to lock.
  2. Click on the "Responses" tab: This tab will show you the responses you have received so far.
  3. Click on the three dots in the top right corner: A menu will appear with various options.
  4. Select "Lock Form": This will prevent any further submissions.

Benefits of Locking a Google Form:

  • Prevent late submissions: This ensures that everyone is on the same page regarding the deadline.
  • Control data collection: Once locked, you can analyze your data without worrying about new responses interfering.
  • Maintain form integrity: Prevents unintended changes or accidental submissions after the form is intended to be closed.

Examples:

  • Deadline for a survey: A teacher might lock a form after a deadline to avoid students submitting responses late.
  • Event registration: An event organizer might lock a form after reaching the maximum number of attendees.

Important Notes:

  • Un-locking a form: You can unlock a form at any time by following the same steps mentioned above.
  • Locked forms and editing: You can still edit the form even after locking it. However, these changes will not affect the responses already collected.
