How Do I Change the Data in Google Forms?

Published in Google Forms 2 mins read

You can't directly edit the data that people submit in your Google Forms. Google Forms is designed to collect and analyze data, not to modify it. However, you can edit the form itself to change how data is collected in the future.

Here's how to edit your Google Form:

  1. Open your Google Form: Go to your Google Drive and find the form you want to edit.
  2. Click "Edit Form": In the top right corner of the form, you'll see a "Edit Form" button. Click on it.
  3. Make your changes: You can now edit the questions, answer choices, and other form settings.
  4. Save your changes: Once you're done editing, click the "Save" button in the top left corner of the screen.

Here are some things you can edit:

  • Questions: Change the text of your questions, add or remove questions, and rearrange the order of questions.
  • Answer Choices: Modify existing answer choices, add new ones, or change the format of answer choices (e.g., multiple choice, checkbox, text box).
  • Response Validation: Add rules to ensure that respondents provide valid data.
  • Form Settings: Customize the appearance of your form, set up email notifications, and configure other settings.

Remember: Editing the form will only affect future responses. Data already submitted will remain unchanged.

Example:

Let's say you have a form asking people about their favorite color. You want to add a new option, "Purple," to the list of choices. You can edit the form, find the "Favorite Color" question, and add "Purple" as a new answer choice. Now, all future responses will include the option to choose "Purple," but previous responses will remain as they were.
