Published in GitHub 2 mins read

You can change your privacy settings on GitHub to control who can see your repositories, activity, and other information. Here's how:

1. Access Your Profile Settings

  • Go to your GitHub profile page.
  • Click on your profile picture in the top right corner.
  • Select Settings from the dropdown menu.

2. Navigate to Privacy Settings

  • In the left sidebar, click on Privacy.

3. Customize Your Privacy Settings

Here are some of the privacy settings you can adjust:

  • Repository Visibility: You can choose to make your repositories public, private, or internal.
  • Activity: You can control who can see your contributions, stars, and other activity on GitHub.
  • Emails: You can manage your email notifications and opt-out of receiving certain emails.
  • Contact Information: You can choose to hide your email address and other contact information from your profile.

4. Save Changes

After making your desired changes, click Save settings at the bottom of the page.

Examples:

  • Making a repository private: If you don't want others to see your code, you can make it private by selecting Private from the Visibility dropdown menu when creating or editing a repository.
  • Hiding your email address: You can prevent your email address from being visible on your profile by unchecking the Show my email address on my profile option under Contact information.

Remember: Carefully consider the implications of your privacy settings before making any changes.
