How Long to Boil an Egg?

Published in Food & Cooking 1 min read

The time required to boil an egg depends on the desired level of doneness:

Soft-Boiled Eggs

  • 3-4 minutes: The yolk will be runny and the white will be set.
  • 5-6 minutes: The yolk will be slightly firmer, but still runny.

Medium-Boiled Eggs

  • 6-8 minutes: The yolk will be firm, but still slightly runny.
  • 9-10 minutes: The yolk will be firm and the white will be fully set.

Hard-Boiled Eggs

  • 10-12 minutes: The yolk will be completely firm and the white will be fully set.

Tips:

  • Start with cold water and bring to a boil before adding eggs.
  • Add eggs gently to prevent cracking.
  • Use a slotted spoon to remove eggs from the hot water.
  • Immediately place eggs in an ice bath to stop the cooking process.
