You can't directly copy merged cells in Excel as a single unit. However, you can copy the contents of the merged cells and then paste them into another location, preserving the formatting. Here's how:
Copying the Contents of Merged Cells
- Select the merged cells: Click on any cell within the merged area.
- Copy the contents: Press Ctrl + C (Windows) or Command + C (Mac) to copy the contents of the selected merged cells.
- Paste the contents: Select the destination cell where you want to paste the copied contents. Press Ctrl + V (Windows) or Command + V (Mac) to paste the contents.
Example:
Let's say you have a merged cell in A1:B1 containing the text "Merged Cell." You want to copy this to cell C1.
- Select cell A1 (or any cell within the merged area).
- Press Ctrl + C to copy the contents.
- Select cell C1.
- Press Ctrl + V to paste the contents.
Preserving Formatting
The formatting of the copied text will be preserved when you paste it into the new location. This includes:
- Font: Font style, size, and color
- Alignment: Left, center, right, or justified
- Fill color: The background color of the cell
- Borders: Any borders around the cell
Note: If you want to paste the contents without any formatting, use Paste Special and choose Values or Text from the options.
Remember: This method only copies the contents of the merged cells. The merged cells themselves are not copied. If you want to copy the merged cells and retain their formatting, you can copy and paste the entire row or column containing the merged cells.
