How Does Alpha Lock Work in IbisPaint?

Published in Drawing & Painting 2 mins read

Alpha lock is a feature in IbisPaint X that allows you to selectively edit specific areas of your drawing while keeping the rest untouched. It essentially locks the transparency of your drawing, preventing you from accidentally painting over areas that are already transparent.

Here's how it works:

  • Select the Alpha Lock: When you select the Alpha Lock option, it essentially creates a mask based on the existing transparency of your drawing. Only the opaque areas of your drawing will be affected by any further painting or editing.
  • Edit the Opaque Areas: Any new colors or brush strokes you apply will only affect the opaque parts of your drawing. Transparent areas will remain unchanged.
  • Example: Imagine you have a drawing of a flower on a white background. If you select Alpha Lock and then apply a red color to the flower, only the flower itself will turn red, leaving the white background untouched.

Alpha Lock is a powerful tool for:

  • Precise Editing: It allows you to edit specific parts of your drawing without affecting the surrounding areas.
  • Coloring: You can easily color in a character or object without worrying about spilling over the edges.
  • Creating Special Effects: You can use Alpha Lock to create unique effects by applying textures, patterns, or filters to specific areas of your drawing.

Alpha Lock is a simple yet effective feature that can significantly enhance your digital artwork. It gives you more control over your drawing process and helps you achieve precise results.
