The dinosaur with 500 teeth is the Nigersaurus.
About the Nigersaurus
The Nigersaurus was a herbivorous dinosaur that lived in what is now Niger, Africa, during the Early Cretaceous period (about 115-105 million years ago). It was a member of the sauropod group, which included some of the largest animals to ever walk the Earth.
Unique Dental Features
The Nigersaurus is known for its unique skull and teeth. Its skull was very wide and flat, and its jaws were lined with hundreds of tiny, peg-like teeth. These teeth were arranged in rows that extended across the entire width of the jaw, giving the dinosaur a wide, “shovel-like” mouth.
Feeding Habits
The Nigersaurus used its unusual teeth to graze on low-lying plants, much like a modern-day cow. The dinosaur's teeth were constantly replaced, with new teeth growing in to replace worn-down ones. This allowed the Nigersaurus to continuously graze on vegetation without having to worry about running out of teeth.
Other Interesting Facts
- The Nigersaurus had a very long neck, which it used to reach high into the trees for food.
- The dinosaur was relatively small for a sauropod, measuring only about 30 feet (9 meters) long.
- The Nigersaurus was named after the country where it was discovered, Niger.
