How Do I Edit a Locked Design in Canva?

Published in Design Tools 2 mins read

You can't directly edit a locked design in Canva. This is a security feature that prevents accidental changes to designs that are already finalized or shared with others.

Here are a few ways to work around this limitation:

  • Make a Copy: The easiest solution is to create a copy of the locked design. This allows you to edit the duplicate without affecting the original. To do this, click the "More" button (three dots) on the locked design, and select "Copy." You can then edit the copy as you wish.
  • Unlock the Design: If you are the owner of the design, you can unlock it by going to the "Share" tab and changing the sharing settings. This will allow you to edit the design directly.
  • Collaborate with the Owner: If you need to edit a design that is locked and you are not the owner, you can request access to edit the design from the owner. You can do this by clicking the "Share" tab and selecting "Share to edit."

Remember, if you are working on a design with others, it's always a good idea to communicate clearly and ensure everyone has the necessary permissions to make edits.
