How to Reset an HP Envy?

Published in Computer Troubleshooting 2 mins read

Resetting your HP Envy can be helpful if you're experiencing issues like slow performance, software glitches, or if you're planning to sell or give it away. Here's how to do it:

Hard Reset

A hard reset restarts your HP Envy, clearing temporary files and closing all running programs. This is the easiest way to reset your device and is often the first step to troubleshooting problems.

  • Method 1: Using the Power Button
    • Press and hold the power button for about 10 seconds.
    • Release the power button and wait for the device to power back on.
  • Method 2: Using the "Restart" Option
    • Go to the Start Menu and select Settings.
    • Click on Update & Security and then Recovery.
    • Under Advanced startup, click on Restart now.
    • Choose Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart.
    • Select Option 7: Safe Mode with Networking to restart in safe mode.

Factory Reset

A factory reset erases all data and settings from your HP Envy, returning it to its original state. This is a more drastic solution and should only be used as a last resort.

  • Method 1: Using the Settings App
    • Go to the Start Menu and select Settings.
    • Click on Update & Security and then Recovery.
    • Under Reset this PC, click on Get started.
    • Choose Keep my files to keep personal files or Remove everything to delete all data.
  • Method 2: Using the HP Recovery Manager
    • Open the HP Recovery Manager app.
    • Select System Recovery.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the factory reset.

Note: Before performing a factory reset, back up all important data, such as documents, photos, and videos, to an external storage device.

Other Ways to Reset

Depending on your HP Envy model, you might have additional options for resetting your device. For example, some models offer a dedicated reset button or a specific combination of key presses to initiate a reset. You can find more specific instructions in your device's user manual or on the HP support website.
