Slow thinking, also known as System 2 thinking, is a deliberate, conscious, and effortful cognitive process that involves reasoning, analysis, and deliberation. It's slower than System 1 thinking, which is automatic and intuitive. System 2 thinking is engaged when we need to solve complex problems, make decisions, or learn new information. It's the part of our mind that allows us to think critically, reflect on our actions, and plan for the future.
Examples of System 2 thinking:
- Solving a math problem
- Writing an essay
- Learning a new language
- Making a major life decision
